The Winnsboro, Louisiana community is mourning the tragic loss of 28-year-old Courtney Temple, who died following a devastating crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 and Weems Road in Richland Parish. The fatal collision has left family, friends, and residents grieving as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Temple was a front-seat passenger in a 2007 Ford F-150 that was traveling south on Weems Road. Investigators reported that the vehicle approached the intersection with a green traffic signal and began making a left turn onto U.S. Highway 80 when the crash occurred.
At the same time, a 2013 GMC Sierra traveling eastbound on Highway 80 allegedly entered the intersection after failing to stop at a red light. The vehicle struck the passenger side of the Ford F-150, resulting in a severe impact that caused catastrophic damage.
Courtney Temple, who was properly restrained at the time of the collision, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency responders’ efforts. Her sudden passing has left her loved ones devastated and searching for comfort in the wake of an unimaginable loss.
The driver of the Ford F-150 also sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The driver of the GMC Sierra, identified as 38-year-old Allen Stewart of Baskin, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Following an investigation, Louisiana State Police determined that impairment was a contributing factor in the crash. After receiving medical treatment, Stewart was arrested and booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, operating a vehicle while impaired, disregarding a traffic control signal, and additional traffic-related offenses.
Officials confirmed that toxicology samples were collected as part of the ongoing investigation, and further results are pending. Authorities continue to review evidence, including witness statements and crash reconstruction data, to fully understand the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
